Project Description

The “Bassi” project was born from the desire to promote diversified processes of democratic participation through the artistic and cultural enhancement of the territory. “Bassi” aims at transforming the inner city of Naples into an artistic production and distribution site with a high social impact.

The “bassi” of Naples (a typical poor housing in Naples inner city) thus become the pivot for a narration which, almost effortlessly, generates surreal but concrete images, states of needed predisposition to an escape route, whether it is real or pure dream, of expectation and growth.

The project originates from the partnership between the KosmoPolis making of association and the Department of Culture and Urban Planning of the Municipality of Naples, together with the schools participating in the project proposal: LCS “Umberto I”, LCS “A. Genovesi “, LCS” V. Cuoco “, LCS” A. Pansini “.

The recipients of the project are 200 high school students aged between 14 and 18 years with their families, 20 high school teachers and almost 5000 visitors. The project aims at stimulating in young and old people the ability participate directly in the life of the universe they belong to and to develop a critical and aware thinking about their own space. This is an unmissable opportunity for local development.

Starting from this assumption, the challenge of the laboratory insists on an aspiration: to transform the city center into a construction site for artistic production and distribution with a high social impact.

The Pianoterra Foundation supports the “Bassi” project, which livens up territories it knows well, rereading them from below, from a shared and participatory perspective.
