Project Description

The Neev Boys Shelter Home is located in Navi, a center included in the broader metropolitan area of Mumbai, South-East of the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The facility is managed by the non-governmental organization Maher, based in India, and welcomes orphans, semi-orphans or children from poor families who cannot take care of them.

The word “neev”, which gives the family home its name, means “foundation”, a reference to the aim of offering children a solid foundation on which to build a different future: food and basic health care, education and training, protection and safety. At the home, children can eat healthy and regular meals, receive all the health care they need and are supported in their educational and training paths. Most of the children hosted at the home attend school. Some are preparing to enter university.

The Neev Boys Shelter Home currently hosts 31 children aged between 6 and 17 years old. 8 young men and women have left home after turning 18, but continue to be supported by the organization to deal with educational expenses and other emergencies. They are followed by a staff of five people.

Pianoterra Foundation has been supporting the Neev Boys Shelter Home family home since 2020, responding in particular to the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, shares with Maher a set of good practices in supporting children and family reunification paths and encourages the creation of synergies with other organizations supported by the Foundation in India.
