Project Description
In 2018, the Pianoterra Foundation began supporting Sant’Anna Shelter House, an archipelago of eight shelter houses in Rome establoshed by Don Vittorio Bernardi, priest of a parish in the Torre Angela district, in the eastern outskirts of Rome. The shelters welcome vulnerable people in a simple and warm family context: women alone or with children, victims of violence or in conditions of serious socio-economic or psychological distress; young people and adolescents at risk; foreign citizens without safety nets. The goal is to offer these people a safe space in which to stop only for the time necessary to get back on their feet and leave again, being able to count on support and care programs carefully tailored on their needs and aimed at achieving or regaining autonomy.
The Pianoterra Foundation support the psychological counselling and educational activities for the guests of the house, both adults and children, the rental and maintenance costs and minor economic interventions designed to decompress most urgent needs. In 2019, the Pianoterra Foundation also supported the refurbishment of a farmhouse in the countryside intended for the summer reception of shelters’ guests.
