Project Description

Tor Sapienza Film Lab was born in 2014 in Rome as a challenge taken on by three subjects: Antropos Association, Fondazione Pianoterra and Kino Productions. Three entities of different nature, vocation and professionalism that have come together in a project of social inclusion by giving young people from a disadvantaged Roman suburb a pen and a piece of paper, and the opportunity to tell their stories. Aides of the project were the director Giovanni Piperno and the screenwriter Pier Paolo Piciarelli. The result of this first workshop are two short films made with the kids of Tor Sapienza who, in a fresh and ironic way, tell their lives and loves in this neighborhood. The two short films were presented at the 2015 Roma Film Festival, in the section “Alice in Città”. Since then, they have participated in numerous festivals throughout Italy, receiving awards and mentions. In particular, the short film “Almost heroes” received a Silver Ribbon in 2016.

Tor Sapienza Film Lab went on in 2016, with the involvement of other young people from the neighborhood and the making of a third short film, entitled “Truth or Dare”. In 2017, the workshop “moved” to the premises of the “De Cupis” middle school, in Tor Sapienza, integrating its educational offer with the collaboration of Archive of migrant memories and director Suranga Katugampala.
